Cultivating a Nimble Attention
The holiday season has come and gone, and perhaps the New Year’s resolutions, too. I hope you will have used this time to savor what you are and already have before trying to shake things up to create room for more.
The time, though, has come for us to get back to work. And since this is still early in the year, to focus on what it is you intend to create this year. No, I’m not talking about all those resolutions to do this or that which you thought might lead you to more health, money, or happiness. You’re on your own with those.
I’m talking instead about the innermost desires of your heart, the ones that come from God through your soul. Like the one to find meaning for life. Or the one to allow yourself to fully love and be loved. Or the one that wants to know why you seem to attract all these situations that you find so unpleasant, and what to do about it.
This is a year of awakening to all of that, especially who you are at your core, and learning to use the creative powers at your disposal. The other things in your life that demand so much of your time and attention may still be there. But hopefully you’ll start experiencing them a little differently. Perhaps enjoying even the struggles, and moving through them more smoothly.
It’s hard to focus on creating something new because we first have to deal with what we’ve already created. And many times that’s not pleasant. That’s why I understand how hard it is to spend time on your own inner processes, or undertaking activity that will challenge the hold of that creation. It raises a fear that we won’t be able to cope with its demands if we take our eyes off it for even a moment.
